My day yesterday as I planned it:
1. Make breakfast and get Julia off to school.
2. Play with Natalie.
3. Put Natalie down for a nap.
4. Put away Christmas decorations and clean house while Natalie sleeps.
5. Eat lunch.
6. Run errands.
My day as it happened:
1. Made breakfast and got Julia off to school.2. Played with Natalie.
3. Natalie refused to nap.
4. Played with Natalie some more and watched "Elmo and the Wild, Wild West".
5. Cheered at Natalie's mastery of a new word, "horse".
6. Made fruit bowls, animals, flowers, and people with play-doh.
7. Ate lunch.
8. Natalie fell asleep in my arms.
9. Caught up with friends on the phone while Natalie snoozed on me.
10. Danced with two giggling girls to a CD of waltzes.
Motherhood is a study in chaos theory. No matter how many times my plans are foiled, I persist in littering my house with lists. The truth is, I'd be bored stiff without the constant cacophony of curiosity, creativity, crashes, cuddles, and craziness my girls bring. Today, I will smile while my schedule becomes a paper airplane and sails into the recycling bin.
